Most of you reading this are too darned young to remember Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s “New Deal“. (Whippersnappers!) Well I knew FDR. FDR was a friend of mine, and Senator, you are no FDR! (Sorry – senility kicked in there for a second. Most of you won’t get that joke anyway. Whippersnappers!)
When FDR took over this country in 19 and 33, the nation was in a shambles. (Much as it is today after eight years of Bush, Cheney and their shenanigans.) FDR brought this country up by its bootstraps with a series of programs collectively called the “New Deal”. It’s a shame that more of you young people don’t know more about the New Deal because it created Social Security, the FDIC, union protection programs, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA – now HUD) and upgraded much of the national infrastructure (much of which is in desperate need of upgrading again, after just 70 short years!)
Well, I’ve been thinking a lot about the New Deal over the last few years. We need another one. And here’s a good start…
