This blog chronicles my life at the beach and my fondness for the ocean, palm trees, sand between my toes and all things tropical. I have a large collection of Aloha shirts which someday I hope to photalog for this blog. I love tiki gods and make exquisite tropical drinks; I doubt I’ll ever publicly post the recipe for “Donny Bahama’s Best-in-Hawaii Mai-Tai”, I usually share it privately when asked nicely. When I’m working, I like to sit on the couch or on the patio, where I can look up and see the ocean whenever I like, so know that most of what you read on this blog was written while overlooking the Pacific and the Oceanside Pier.
This blog should reflect my passion for music (life’s soundtrack) and movies (the great escape) and, by extension, audio/video and (especially) home theater. Planned home theater projects include a cinemascope silver screen, a DIY anamorphic lens and a unique remote control system utilizing Pocket PCs and a web server for bi-directional control – all of which I expect to document on this blog.
This blog will no doubt reflect my fascination with the interweb. You can expect numerous posts on the cool things I find while exploring the greatest source of knowledge the world has ever known. Hand in hand with such distractions is my struggle to stay focused and handle life’s daily challenges. I anticipate many posts on implementing organizational strategies such as (David Allen’s) Getting Things Done (a.k.a. GTD).
My love/hate relationship with computers will no doubt be the subject of several posts. (I own 7 or 8 of them!) Abandoning Windows in favor of Linux should also inspire many posts. I aspire to one day, hopefully, creating my own Linux distribution; I have a vision for a very unique user interface. If I ever find the time to do so, I’ll be chronicling it here. Other computer-related topics ripe for blog posts include building an HD-HTPC (High Definition Home Theater PC – for playing Blu-Ray discs and more) as well as a media server and a Car PC from an old notebook.
A wanna-be gadgeteer, I don’t often have the money to spend on cool gadgets and gizmos, but I’ve customized my Windows Mobile-based cell phone like crazy. I created my own user interface and am getting ready to create version 2 (which I’ll be documenting on this blog.)
I’m an avid DIYer and often find myself thinking, “I could build that.” And while I dearly love woodworking, you probably won’t be reading many posts on the topic since I currently have no place to use my tools.
I’m politically progressive and somewhat of an activist, so expect the occasional political rant. I’m an atheist and believe, for the most part, that organized religion does far more harm than good. But I also have some Buddhist leanings, so expect to see some philosophical and introspective posts on life, death, aging, and “the meaning of it all”.
